The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday commenced the online application process for the UGC NET December 2022 cycle. The interested candidates can apply for UGC NET 2022 through the official website of UGC NET — ugcnet.nta.nic.in. Applicants can submit UGC NET forms till March 2, 2021. The last date for successful transaction of Examination fee (through Credit Card/ Debit Card/Net Banking & Paytm Payment Modes till 11:50 pm) is March 3. The UGC NET December cycle 2020 exam will be held in Year 2021 on May 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14, and 17. Exams will be held in two shifts.

How to apply for NTA UGC NET? Candidates can follow the steps given below to apply online:


Step 1: Register for Online Registration using your own email ID and mobile number and note down system generated application number


Step 2: Complete the online application form and note down the system generated application number

Step 3: Upload legible scanned images of: (i) a recent photograph (in jpg/ jpeg file, size 10Kb – 200Kb) either in colour or black & white with 80% face (without mask) visible including ears against white background; (ii) candidate’s signature (file size: 4kb - 30kb)

UGC NET notification for May 2022 out; registration begins

The test will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only and will comprise of two papers. The Paper I will be of 100 marks, which will have 50 questions. Paper-II will be of 200 marks and it will have 100 MCQ format questions. The exam will be conducted in two shifts and the duration of the test will be three hours. 

The National Testing Agency will issue the UGC NET December cycle (May 2022) information bulletin today i.e., February 2. The application process for the same will commence from today and will continue till March 2. However, candidates can make application fee payments up to March 3.Awarding of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and/ or Eligibility for Assistant Professorship depends on the aggregate performance of the candidate in Paper-I and Paper-II of UGC-NET. The candidates qualifying only for Assistant Professorship are not to be considered for the awarding of JRF. 

Candidates who qualify the eligibility test for Assistant Professorship are governed by the rules and regulations for recruitment of Assistant Professor of the concerned universities/colleges/state governments, as the case may be.

Step 1: Visit the official website of the agency i.e. ugcnet.nta.nic.in


Step 2: Enter email ID and mobile number


Step 3: Note down the system-generated application number


Step 4: Fill the online application form and again note down the application number for future use.


Candidates are also expected to upload certain important documents such as a recent photograph and their signature. The photograph can either be black and white or colour with the face being 80% visible against the white background.


UGC NET Eligibility 2022

The basic criteria that candidates must fulfil to meet UGC NET eligibility 2022 are:


  • Candidates should secure at least 55 per cent aggregate marks in post-graduation 
  • Candidates should not be more than 31 years in age in order to be eligible for JRF
  • There is no age restriction to apply for the post of Assistant Professor
  • A relaxation of five per cent in educational qualification is given to reserved category candidates
  • A relaxation of five years in age criteria is given to reserved category candidates
  • Candidates who have cleared State Eligibility Test (SET) before June 1, 2002 are exempted from taking the UGC NET exam

UGC NET Selection Process


UGC NET selection process includes the following steps:

Step 1: Fill UGC NET application form
For UGC NET registrations, candidates can fill the application form in online mode on the official website of the exam. 

Step 2: Download UGC NET admit card
After successful registrations, candidates can download their UGC NET admit card by logging in to their registered accounts.

Step 3: Appear for UGC NET exam
Next, candidates need to appear for UGC NET exam. UGC NET is a computer-based test that consists of two papers - I and II. Both the papers contain objective-type questions that candidates need to complete in a duration of three hours.

Step 4: Check UGC NET result
NTA declares UGC NET result on its official website as per the prescribed schedule. The result contains the roll number and status (qualified for Assistant Professor only or both JRF and Assistant Professor) of candidates qualifying the National Eligibility Test.

Q: When will UGC NET 2022 exam be conducted?

Ans: The UGC NET 2022 exam will be conducted from May 2 to 17. The UGC NET 2022 notification was released on February 2. See here the details about UGC NET notification 2022.

Q: For how many subjects is UGC NET exam conducted?

Ans: UGC NET is conducted for total 81 subjects.

Q: Is UGC NET conducted online?

Ans: Yes, ever since NTA has started conducting the exam, UGC NET is conducted in online mode as a computer-based test (CBT) only.

Q: What is the age limit to apply for UGC NET exam?

Ans: To apply for JRF, candidates should not be more than 30 years in age. There is no age limit to apply for the post of Assistant Professor.

Q: How many papers does one need to clear in order to qualify the UGC NET exam?

Ans: One needs to pass both the papers (paper-I and II) in order to qualify the UGC NET exam.   

Q: Is there any negative marking in UGC NET exam?

Ans: No, there is no negative marking in the exam. Candidates are awarded zero marks for an incorrect answer or a question left unanswered. 

Q: What is the validity of UGC NET eligibility certificate?

Ans: There is no prescribed validity for UGC NET eligibility certificate received for the post of Assistant Professor. This means that UGC NET certificate for Assistant Professor is valid for lifetime. However, the JRF award letter is valid for a period of three years starting from the day of issue of the letter.

Q: Can I choose the post for which I want to take the exam?

Ans: Yes, you have the option of selecting the role (Assistant Professor/JRF/both) at the time of filling the application form.

Q: Is Aadhaar card mandatory to apply for the exam?

Ans: No, you can mention any identification number (PAN card, ration card, passport etc) at the time of filling the application form.

Q: What is the minimum eligibility criteria to apply for UGC NET exam?

Ans: You should score at least 55 per cent aggregate marks in your master's degree exams. 

Q: Who are exempted from taking the UGC NET exam?

Ans: Candidates who possess the below-mentioned qualification are exempted from taking the UGC NET exam:

Q: When will I get my NTA UGC NET admit card?

Ans: UGC NET admit cards 2022 will be released on different dates for different papers. However, the exact dates for the release of the admit card have not been announced yet.

Ans: Every year, about eight to ten lakh candidates appear for the UGC NET exam. In 2020, total 8,60,976 candidates registered for the exam. In December 2019, total 10,34,872 candidates had registered for the UGC NET exam.

Ans: Candidates who qualify the UGC NET exam will be awarded the NET eligibility certificate. Those who qualify as per UGC NET result for JRF, their certificate remains valid for three years (3 years) from the date of issue while for Assistant professor lectureship, the validity is lifetime. 

Q: What is the Validity of  NTA UGC NET 2022 Certificate?
Ans: There are two certifications for the candidates who qualify UGC NET exam: 

1. Certificate for Lectureship (LS)
2. Certificate for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

The validity of both these certificates are different.

Validity For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) : UGC NET Certificate for JRF remains valid for three years(3 Years) from the date of declaration of the result.

Validity For Lectureship (LS) : While for the post of Assistant Professor (Lectureship), there is no such validation limit. It will be valid for lifetime.

Q: How many times is UGC NET exam conducted in a year?

Ans: NTA UGC NET exam is conducted twice a year. The UGC NET exam 2022 will be conducted in May instead of June.
